ATTRIBUTES
Academics
I am not a perfect straight A student, however, I have maintained a 3.94 unweighted GPA. I have taken 7 AP classes throughout my high school career and have gotten all A's except for three unfortunate Bs. My high school does not rank, however, I would rank among the top ten percent of my graduating class. I have been selected several years for the Superintendents, Honor Society, and President's Honor Roll. Overall, I am a great student with a good work ethic, amazing organizational skills, practiced time management, and, most of the time, a good attitude to go along with my good grades. I would like to study Biology and English while at college and plan to one day become a neurosurgeon who saves lives and does research on genetic mutations and human illnesses that plague some human beings.
Community Service
Just last summer my mother and I decided to get more involved in our church, Life Church in Bixby, Oklahoma. We started serving every other Sunday in the Children's Area with the five-year-olds. I've learned to interact with young children better and how to better be involved in my community. Also, I have lately joined the Junior Volunteer Program at St. John's Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I am aiding nurses in their everyday duties and also learning how the hospital operates and the best procedures for working or serving in a hospital. With my desired career path of a doctor, this opportunity allowed me to broaden my medical knowledge, while also volunteering in a setting where there is a lot of need for assistance. My volunteering programs allow for both my heart and mind to grow.
Work
Last summer, I had a hard time finding any open opportunities for work. With the recession and the onslaught of college students, I had slim pickings for work of any kind. Fortunately, a small health foods store, The Fresh Market, was set to open in June so the other kids were unable to scoop up those jobs before my search even began. I was hired about a month after their Grand Opening and I was first trained as a courtesy clerk and then a cashier. I learned how to better accomodate people and how to better enact with all kinds of people. Although I am unable to work as many hours as I could during the summer, I am still learning how to balance schoolwork and work. My work experience has opened my mind up to the stresses of work and has allowed me to grow more mature and responsible.
