I am currently in my senior year at Pueblo County Hugh School. I have an accumulative GPA of 3.4. I am taking advanced classes over the years, have taken three college classes at the local community college and I%am currently in the process of two more. I have a 4.0 GPA at the community college. On my first try, my ACT score was a 26 but, I do plan to retake it for more scholarship opportunities and to broaden my choices of colleges. I am part of Environmental Club. I have an emphasis in marketing at my high school, which I have made it to up to the state level to compete. Grades have always had importance to me because I understand that if you work hard for them your options are endless. School does not come easy for me but I strive to do my best and don't give up.
I started working when I turned 16. I have always had to pay for my own items so it was crucial that I have a job. I started at a local restaurant close to me. After that job I was hired at another restaurant as a cashier. A month later I also started working at a dentist office. I have had both of those occupations for over a year while maintaining school and family. As a cashier I have to pay special attention to detail so my drawer comes out balanced. I also have other duties that consist of cleaning and stocking the floor, handling unpleasant costumers, and assisting the other employees when needed. At the dentist office I assist in procedure had both of those occupations for over a year. I am very proud of the work I do. It is essential to me that my superiors are happy with my work.
Most of my achievements over my high school career are due to my volunteer work. I have went from helping a foster care home to assisting in a dermatologist’s office. I go to the Krol’s home to help cook, clean and, supervise their 8 foster boys. I like to do whatever I can to make their days easier because they really do make a difference.
I was contimplating a career as a dermatologist, so I asked Dr. Shmit if he would allow me to job shadow him. As time passed he asked me to come in and help, so I started volunteering at his practice by writing specimen bottles, cleaning, and assisting in procedures. In between I have done little tasks, such as, highway clean up and babysitting. I feel that knowing that you made a difference in someone’s life even if it was only for a day is important.
