Academics
I am going to be a senior this year and in the past three years, I was a regular High Honor Roll recipient for all A's, rewarding my hard work to have an unweighted GPA of 4.0. This year I am taking two AP classes and honors courses, and have taken honors classes in the past. When I was a sophomore, I received one of the 20 available honorable mentions for a science essay competition called the Dupont Challenge in which I wrote about the benefits of music therapy for autistic individuals. Due to my hard work maintaining a high GPA, I was also inducted into the National Honor Society my junior year. Although I do not hold a position, it is an honor to be considered in NHS. I have also been nominated for the Dean's List by two of my teachers for my hard work and positive attitude.
Community Service
I volunteer regularly because it is very rewarding to me and I love helping people. I volunteer at my grandmother's retirement community at events such as summer concerts, bingo, dart ball, holiday parties, and as a cashier in their store. I also volunteer in the special needs classroom at my school, assisting the teachers with lessons or anything they need. I volunteer at a summer camp for special needs kids and a local baseball field for special needs kids. I also volunteered at my local township library assisting the librarians with putting the books away and general maintenance. Also, as a high school soccer player, I wanted to give back to the community so I volunteered as a youth soccer coach at my old grade school. With my youth group, I also participate in a day of service.
Work
I always consider babysitting as one of my jobs because on a regular basis, local families pay me to watch their kids and keep them safe. They know I am responsible and am reliable to take care of their children. Also, I am a camp counselor at a camp for special needs kids. I volunteered at the camp for three years and then I received my own campers whom I had to keep safe and assist for a six week time period. These kids are very special to me because after spending so much time with them I realized how small my problems are in comparison to theirs. I also am a Dining Associate at a Retirement Community. Not only am I responsible for providing enjoyable, quality meals, but it is also part of my job to engage the elderly residents and learn their interesting life stories.
