As President of my class, I have put a lot of time into making my school a better place. I work hard to raise money for my school and bring students together by promoting school events. By starting a 'Teachers March Madness' basketball game I watched teachers and students connect on another level. Students cheered on the stands for the different teams of teachers who practiced and volunteered their time to participate in the event. Math teachers, Science teachers, English teachers, History teachers, etc. played one another to win the championship game. I was proud of myself for starting something that brought the school together and was enjoyable to take part in for everyone. Being the President of my class I've learned how to be a leader, a skill which I will use for the rest of my life.
Athletics
Starting sports at such a young age taught me about teamwork. My team and I worked together at practices to improve our level of play before the next game. Whether it be for soccer, basketball, or track we learned how to win, how to lose, and how to play. Becoming captain of my travel soccer team meant the world to me. Chosen for my leadership skills, I wore my heart on my sleeve every single game and showed the players that it's not all about the skill level but about the passion and heart you put into each game. The years went on and my team turned into undefeated champions. As captain, I worked hard to show the players what it meant to be a team. We all had our parts and places on the team but in the end if one of us didn't put all we had out on the field, we wouldn't be champions.
Work
I started waitressing when I was fifteen years old going on sixteen. From an early age I was taught responsibility and hard work are some of the most important aspects in life. I worked hard to save money knowing one day I would be able to afford something that I really wanted. This year my school offered a trip to tour Spain for students in the Spanish Honors Society. The money I had saved up was enough to pay for my trip to Europe with my best friends for a breathtaking and unforgettable experience. Not many students can say they were able to travel to a different country before the age of eighteen and that they had paid for it themselves. Knowing I had earned the trip made it so much better because it showed me that if I work hard I can achieve my goals.
