ATTRIBUTES
Government
I have participated in student council at southwest since sophomore year, last year I was voted to be a member of the executive board. I was also voted to be the leader of Link Crew, southwest's freshmen orientation group. As the leader of Link Crew I am in charge of freshmen orientation, the freshman dance, spirit day and other events through the year.
Outside of school I have also participated in politics on a much larger scale. I have campaigned for DFL candidates such as Barack Obama, Margaret Anderson Kelliher and Keith Ellison. For these candidates I have door knocked and phoned to promote them and encourage people to go out and vote. I also went to the DFL caucus in Duluth Minnesota working specifically for Margaret Kelliher in her campaign for governor.
Academics
Throughout high school I have pursued the IB (international baccalaureate) diploma. Taking rigorous IB standard level and higher level courses and writing the extended essay (a 4,000 word essay graded by IB officials). In addition to the diploma I have still made a point of taking Advanced Placement and honors classes as well. My grade point average is a 3.72, I have been recognized by my school for being an honors student for all three years I have attended. I have also been accepted and recognized by NHS and NSHSS (the national honors society and the national society of high school scholars).
Work
In the past I worked at the Southwest Summer Program, my high school's summer camp. I taught a wide range of activities from sports to dinosaurs. At the end of the summer I declined a job offer to continue in the camp office and went to work at Famous Dave's BBQ shack. I have worked at Dave's through the school year and this summer, working as a cashier, waiter, and bus boy. I also hold two jobs at my synagogue, the first is working as a Sunday school teacher's aide through the past school year and this upcoming year. For the second job I help cater events such as a B'Nai Mitzvah. Through each of these jobs I have worked my hardest and that is how more jobs keep being offered. I find that if someone is going to pay me for my work, I had better do my best to earn it.
