Community Service
I devote a great amount of my spare time doing all I can to contribute to the advancement of my community. I am a Youth Commissioner for my community, which allows me to be a prominent leader and an advocate for the youth . Through this leadership role I am able to be face to face with the homelessness, bullying, and over all problems that affect the youth. I’m constantly in front of hundreds of children motivating them to stop the violence, drug abuse and to use their time wisely. One of the programs that I co-created was HOPE or Helping Other People Every day. This program allows for the youth to create care packages and distribute them. This allows me to hear amazing stories of the struggles that some had to endure. It truly creates a since of awareness and gives one a humbling spirit
Athletics
I am a track and field athlete. My events are the 100 meter hurdles, High Jump and Heptathlon. I have the strongest passion to run. It has taught me time management and the true meaning of hard work. There is no other feeling like completing a work out and knowing what I’ve just done in practice will pay off. Track as also taught me how to handle and learn from defeat. I’ve learned to adjust and make decisions while I’m competing to come out victorious. As the underdog; everyone was unsure of what I could produce. Once i showed my potential there was nothing that I wanted more then to get better and to do everything to drop a 10th of a second. This has taught me dedication, sportsmanship and it gives me the drive to be the best in all aspects of life.
Faith
Having a strong faith in God is important to me. It defines who I am and it ensures me that I cannot be easily broken. My faith is what keeps me strong when times get hard for me. While I know all of my experiences will not be perfect, my faith helps me through. I have been a member of my church since my birth and it is a key support system in my life. I am a proud and involved Christian. I started a step team and I’m part of the dance ministry. I’ve delivered speeches, presented ideas for my church to be involved in various activities to promote the church. A strong faith is important it defines who you are and knowing who you are is the greatest thing one can have because then I can go off to college and remain true to myself.
