Academics
My education is one of the top priorities in my life. I have been a straight “A” student from 6th grade all the way through high school. I have been student of the month numerous times in math, art, social sciences, language arts, etc. I am ranked 3rd in my class out of 264. I am also a member of the National Honor Society. I recently received an AP Scholar Award for scoring high enough on three AP tests. I also received Overall Academic Student of the Month Award out of my whole school. I received a 30 on my ACT. I have been taking AP classes since my sophomore year in high school, and am enrolled in 3 more AP classes: AP Calculus, AP Literature and Composition, and AP Chemistry, for the upcoming school year.
Work
I have worked as a swim instructor at our local Learn to Swim Program since 2007. I have worked my way up to the position of Lead Instructor. In public, I receive positive comments about my teaching. I have also worked at McDonalds each summer since 2009. I typically work 35-38 hours per week. I am a crew member, but next summer I will be old enough to be a trainer! Another “unofficial” job that I have is babysitting. I babysit for four different families regularly, and others on and off throughout the year. I have been doing this since 2007. I work as hard as I can, so I am able to save my money for college!
Community Service
I volunteered at the Senior Meals Program, 5 days per week, during the summers of 2007-2009. Now, I volunteer whenever I don’t work. I am an active member in our SADD chapter and was an Advisory Board Member. Some events I have volunteered at consist of serving meals at the Salvation Army holiday dinners, ringing Christmas bells for the Salvation Army, participating in ditch cleanups, volunteering at the SD Special Olympics bowling tournaments, etc. I was also elected the Volunteer Connections President my 11th grade year, and was again for the upcoming school year! We do numerous volunteer activities throughout the year! I have been a Sunday-School teacher for the past 3 years and counting. One of my favorite volunteer activities is being a mentor for the Lincoln Buddies Program.
