Academics
I earned a perfect score of 2400 on my SAT and 800 on both the Physics and Biology SAT Subject Tests. I have a 4.0 GPA and I am taking five AP courses this upcoming year. I have taken four AP courses over the past two years and earned a score of 5 on all four AP exams. In addition, I have earned a score of 98 or above on all 11 NY State Regents Exams I have taken.
I was awarded The Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award—given to one junior in my high school each year—in recognition of outstanding achievement and superior intellectual promise in the field of science. I was also one of two juniors in my high school nominated for The National Council of Teachers of English Achievement Awards in Writing. I have also been inducted into the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society.
Community Service
As a Peer Mentor, I tutor six middle school and high school students who are struggling in school and need a small push to reach their full academic potential. I am also a Child Life Therapist at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, where I help pediatric patients cope successfully with the stress of hospitalization and illness. In addition, I volunteer at AHRC, where I spend time with autistic and mentally disabled children to help them develop their social and communication skills. I also volunteer at the Early Head Start Program, where I work with toddlers and infants from underprivileged areas. As you can see, I am very passionate about working with children! I also volunteer at Hillside Manor Nursing Home, where I assist in craft projects and play memory-enhancing card and board games.
Faith
As a dedicated youth leader in my church, I am actively involved in a number of church activities including community outreach, missionary work, and church-sponsored music and athletic programs. I organize events such as church retreats and summer camps and encourage others to participate. Once a month, my friends and I travel door-to-door, handing out gospel tracts to nonbelievers. We also travel through the streets of NYC, giving food packages to homeless people and ministering to them about Jesus. I am also a junior counselor at VBS, a program of religious education during the summer for elementary-schooled children. My job is to educate students about Bible stories, set up arts and crafts projects, perform Bible-themed skits and puppet shows, and teach kids new Christian songs.
