ATTRIBUTES
Academics
I have held a 4.0 while also taking extremely rigorous AP classes in many different fields such as AP Chemistry, AP Calculus AB, AP English Language and Composition, AP World History and more. I have taken a total of 7 AP tests and have earned five 5s and two 4s in total. I have also been commended for my scores on the PSAT, and will be a national merit scholar semi-finalist, as well as being inducted into National Honors Society and Spanish Honors Society in my junior year. Moreover I earned 4th place in the state Future Business Leaders of America “Business Calculations” contest as well as 4th place at the all city math meet. This upcoming year I will be taking 5 AP classes as well as a class at UW- Madison and being a teaching assistant for the AP Chemistry teacher at our school.
Athletics
I have competed in a variety of sports throughout my 17 years. I earned a first degree black belt when I was 10 years old after 4 years of training. I competed in tennis and basketball throughout middle school and won the all city tennis tournament in 8th grade. I continued with tennis through high school and played varsity tennis my junior year and will play varsity my senior year while also being nominated tennis captain for my senior year of high school. I ran cross country freshmen, sophomore and junior year and plan to run it senior year as well. I am one of the slower people on the team, but the spirit and work ethic I bring to the sport is admired by my coach and my peers.
Community Service
I started volunteered at St. Mary’s Nursing Home, setting up bowling and other activities, even chronicling one of the resident’s lives through World War II. In high school I joined the Spartan Youth Service outreach club where I worked concession stands to raise money for different causes, volunteered at different school carnivals, and packed books to ship to under-privileged kids in Africa. I have also volunteered every Sunday mentoring kids in the Math Counts program. This year I was nominated to serve on the Spartan Youth Service board and hope to initiate a program to serve dinner to the homeless kids in our school. What I love the most, however, is tutoring other students in my school, mostly in science. I love seeing their face light up when they grasp a concept or solve a problem.
