ATTRIBUTES
Academics
Academic success has not been easy for me because I started school without knowing English, but I have always been willing to give everything I have to reach my goals.I have been on the honor roll every single year in school. I have taken as many Honors or AP classes my school offers since the seventh grade. I am currently taking three AP classes. I have passed four AP exams with a 3 or better. I am in the top tenth percentile of my class. I received a 1980 on my SAT. I have taken four years of Spanish and plan on taking a fifth year in the fall of 2012. This will make me eligible to receive the Bilingual Competency Award. I have joined Academic Decathlon and plan on joining Mock Trial in the fall of 2012. My total GPA, as an incoming senior, is a 3.84.
Arts
I fell in love with theater during my freshman year; however following my passions have been difficult because the arts, especially theater, are not encouraged in my family. But I have decided to follow my heart and stay involved in the arts. I have been involved in 6 productions as an actress, crew member, designer, and a crew head. I am part of the International Thespian Society for having completed 100 hours of my time to theater in a single year. As an incoming senior I have served over 500 hundred hours of time to my high school theater. I have held an officer position for the club. I have the played the lead role in my school's production of The Odd Couple. Last spring, I was actress, designer, and running crew head member in the production of Grease.
Faith
I come from a very religious Muslim family, where strong faith has been instilled in me since childhood. My family and I have helped establish a mosque in our local area. Membership is small, so I do my part to keep the mosque successful. I have volunteered my time as a book keeper overlooking donations and membership funds in order to create tax deductions receipts. I have been a Master of Ceremonies for a fundraiser. I have been a part of the mosque's Youth Group since its creation 5 years ago. I went to a Islamic Sunday School in a different establishment for 9 years, becoming the valedictorian for the graduation class. I speak at Interfaith gatherings in order to help build bridges across the community.
