Academics
I have maintained above a 3.0 GPA throughout my High School career, having earned a 3.8 GPA this previous semester. I believe I deserve to be awarded, for I prioritize, am efficient, organized, and punctual in the completion of my work. I have exhibited self-motivation coupled with a positive attitude. I approach my studies with gusto, inquisitiveness, and always with good humor. My curiosity leads me to question what I do not understand and delve more deeply into that what interests me. Furthermore, I have been able to stay focused even though my Sophomore year, I was hospitalized for anxiety and depression. Upon discharge, I returned to my studies with motivation and optimism. For this reason I have an IEP, which helps me to continue to excel in the classroom.
Green
I am a part of Benicia High School's ECH20 Academy, ECH20 standing for energy, carbon, water. This program involves taking part in Coastal Clean- Up, fundraisers, and green innovation. This previous year, I have interviewed with green car dealers, ran a complete bio-assessment of Sulfur Springs Creek in Hiddenbrook with my classmates, raised Ceriodaphnia dubia cultures to test water toxicity in several creeks, audited the school's energy output, and tested blade designs in hope to discover the most effective blade design for wind turbines. I am also well versed in field testing using DO, PH, Conductivity, and Turbidity meters, as well as testing nitrate and phosphate levels in water. I am a part of this program because I want to be a part of the development for a better future.
Community Service
I take pride in the success of those around me. This last semester, I was a Teacher's Assistant for a Special Education Math class instead of taking an elective course. I have also volunteered to help one of my previous teachers multiple times with grading outside of the classroom. Furthermore, I have recently assisted an Elementary School teacher in guiding third grade students through Summer School work and activities. I have taken part in Coastal Clean-Up in previous years, hosted Seminars and Fundraisers with my class, and have worked in a soup kitchen. I am signed up to assist another teacher this upcoming year.
