Faith
I am tenaciously rooted in my religion, Islam, which I feel is a very misunderstood faith. I have attended over 5 single and double weekend seminars about the Sharia Law and the workings of my faith with Al-Maghrib Institute, and I am a part of, and the secretary of my local mosques youth group. I also compete in the arts of the Muslim world, mainly in Arabic Calligraphy and Tajweed, which is the art of reading the Koran. I have over the course of 9 years, learned Arabic as my third language (the others being Urdu and English), so that I would be able to understand the Koran in its original form. I volunteer with Al-Maghrib Institute's New York Division, Qabeelat Tayybah, in events. I have also attended an Islamic Private School my entire life (Al-Noor School, and Hamza School).
Academics
As a student, I take my studies very seriously, and I have been on the Honor Roll since Elementary School. I have recieved a 97 on my Earth Science Regents, and an 86 on my Algebra regents, both which I took in 8th grade. In my freshman year, I took the Biology and Geometry Regents, both of which whose grades are still being processed. I am one year ahead in both subjects. I recieved a 100% grade in Biology in two out of four marking periods, and a straight 100% in all four marking periods for Koranic Studies and Islamic Studies. My grades have been above 90 for all four marking periods in the subjects of Social Studies, English, and Arabic. I have tutored students in the grade above me, in geometry, and students in the grade below me in Earth Science. 2nd place science fair winner of 2012
Technology
My passion for techonology originated from my father, who is a software developer for Goldman Sachs. He encouraged me to read handbooks on basic programs like Linux and Java, and in the summer of 2011 I took an intensive course on C++ with iD tech camps, recieving three CEUs in Programming. This knowledge allowed me to write basic programs with simple codes, and inspired me to pursue a minor in programming, which I hope to achieve through scholarships such as this one. I have explored the innards of a computer with the supervision of my father, and basic circutry is something i find intriguing. Unfortunately, my school's computer lab is severely underfunded, and cannot afford to teach much programming, leading me to seek out other courses. I have 100% in all four marking periods in 9th grd
