ATTRIBUTES
Community Service
In my school it is a requirement to have at least 20 hours of community service. Since my 7th grade year I have been volunteering at thrift stores and other community organizations for my school and to help better my community. My graduating class has taken that a step further, we decided to put on a benefit musical. Our musical will be put on next year and we are giving all the proceeds to a charity.
Arts
I have been dancing for 12 years. I take tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, and lyrical. I was selected to be on my Competitive team 4 years ago. I go to 3 competitions every year, including one in Chicago and I have won many awards. These include 5 first place awards and an overall high score award this year alone. The overall high score award is important to me because we won it with a tap dance. Tap is not a popular form of dance anymore so we were surprised when our name was called for that award. I am preparing for nationals because of my performance with my team this year.
Academics
I attend City High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It is an advanced international baccalaureate school that was ranked in the top 200 by the U.S. News & World Report. The application process was vigorous. I had to test to get in and all of my past standardized test scores were looked at. I started attending City in 7th grade and it was a challenge. It took a lot of hard work but I am now more comfortable and my grades are constantly increasing. I took AP English and History curriculum as a sophomore. I was also picked to attend Washington, D.C at the people to people world leadership forum. The trip taught me many things about my country and my government.
