Meet Bryce Walburn.
A senior at a high school in Pennsylvania, Bryce demonstrates excellence and passion in arts, academics, and community service and the Discus Awards recognize Bryce for his remarkable accomplishments inside and outside the classroom.
Bryce is the winner of the June 2010 Discus Scholarship, a scholarship presented to one select Discus Awards winner every month of the school year. From among thousands of Discus Awards winners and accomplishments in 10 attribute categories, a panel of judges has chosen Bryce as the recipient of the $2,000 college scholarship.
The Discus Awards, a high school awards program honoring students who excel in and out of the classroom, look beyond grades, scores, and win-loss records and recognize students for their multi-dimensional talents and passions.
Bryce is actively pursuing his artistic passions and honoring his commitment to the classroom and his community, and the Discus Awards are pleased to shine the spotlight on him.

“I am a very accomplished musician...I was a member of the 2009 PMEA All-State Wind Ensemble, and I have been a part of PMEA choirs, bands, and jazz ensembles.”Bryce plays the piano, alto saxophone, guitar, flute and he sings, and he's accomplished in every one. He won a concerto competition on the saxophone, is a member of two select choirs, and also participates in jazz band, marching band, concert band, pit orchestra, symphony orchestra, and the Tri-M Music Honors Society. Bryce says, "Music is a huge part of my life," and there's certainly no denying his devotion or his achievements. |

“This past summer, I was chosen as 1 of 40 students from 150 applicants to participate in the Drexel Mentorship Program. I spent 3 weeks under a Drexel professor completing an independent engineering research project.”With a 4.0 GPA, ranked third in his class of more than 500 students, and a PSAT score placing him in the top 50,000 scores out of the 1.5 million test takers, Bryce has accomplished the academic accolades you would expect from an outstanding student. As a member of the Center for Talented Youth based on his 7th grade SAT scores with SAT scores for math, reading, and writing in the 97th, 89th, and 99th percentiles respectively, Bryce has shown that he is truly a special force in the classroom. |

“I am an Eagle Scout. My Eagle Scout project took 150 hours. I restored a forested area near my church, and installed a walking path with wooden benches.”Bryce has participated in a variety of community service activities including Anchor Club, National Honors society volunteer activities, and volunteer work at his church. Bryce has shown a committment to giving back and has bettered his community by donating his time to causes and activities he is passionate about. |
