About the Discus Awards: Information for Counselors

Picking a college is hard enough - getting into the right college can be even harder.

If you’re in the business of advising high school students about college planning, you know that there are a lot of great students out there who distinguish themselves in areas other than grades and test scores.  The Discus Awards believes that getting into college should be about more than just numbers.  Discus focuses on ten attributes that demonstrate a student’s capacity to succeed both in and outside the classroom.

Share the Discus Awards program with your students

We encourage you to share the Discus Awards opportunity with your students.  One way for you to share Discus with your students is by posting a link (www.DiscusAwards.com) to your school's website.

Nominate Your Standout Students for Discus Awards Recognition

Nominating a student for Discus Awards recognition gives college counselors a tool to champion kids who may fly under the radar in traditional measures of academic or athletic merit.  By nominating your students, you can show them how to cultivate their unique strengths and find their own path to success.  It’s all about finding the perfect fit between individual schools and students with diverse, real-world passions.
