"I worked at my local shelter serving food and babysitting children. I also organized a fundraiser called "Pennies for Pillows" for homeless children to have the comfort of a special pillow. I was fortunate to go to Panama and Costa Rica the past two summers to build houses and work with children in poor communities. This winter I am coaching Special Olympics basketball. I love the unique perspective community service gives about one's life and the positive feelings one gets from making a difference in the lives of others."

COMMUNITY SERVICE
Everybody wants to change the world — and you already have. Whether you’re volunteering, tutoring, or mentoring, you always make an impact. If you make your school, your town, your country, or your world a more fair, free, and friendly place, your community service credentials could help score you a Discus Award. The Discus Awards are a whole new spin on community service for high school students. Discus Award winners aren’t just in it for school credit; they pursue community service because they want to make a difference.
