Guess the Group - Round Three
It’s Friday again, which means it’s time to take you into the weekend with another edition of Guess the Group, where we introduce you to some outstanding Discus Awards winners who have a diverse range of achievements, but are tied together through one common thread. We’ll provide you with a brief description of each winner and three hints to help you guess what they all have in common. Once you think you know, click “continue reading…” to find out if you’re right! Now, on to this week’s group of winners:
Kylan Nieh – In the past three months, Kylan has launched two non-profit organizations. One of his NPOs – “Internetting Family” – teaches senior citizens how to use the computer and internet.
Kolby Keo – Kolby coordinated and hosted a school-wide fundraiser for the relief efforts in Haiti. In just two minutes, the program raised $6,400 for the Giving Children Hope Foundation.
Marquel Carter – In addition to being a highly-recruited starting quarterback on his school’s football team, Marquel speaks, reads, and writes Japanese fluently.
Tyler Janzen – A Rotary Club student of the month, Tyler was a top qualifier for the National Forensics League Tournament in both the duo and humor categories.
Kylee Haggerty – Kylee is the definition of a student athlete. She is both a member of the National Honors Society and a district tournament qualifier for tennis.

Guess the Group - Round Two
We love to have fun here at the Discus Awards and today’s Friday. As a result of that power duo, we’re taking you into the weekend with another round of Guess the Group. For those of you who are new to this game, we start out with a one sentence description of a few Discus Awards winners. Next, we offer three hints as to what these winners have in common. Finally, you click on the link to reveal the answer. Here we go…
Ashley Argota – She’s been acting and singing since she was four years old and has never had anything below a 3.8 GPA
Alexandra Rose Rieger – The March 2010 Discus Scholarship winner, Alexandra is a youth ambassador who’s worked with more than 30 different charities and organizations around the world
Robert Hayes –Robert won first place in the science fair and was the homecoming king at his high school
Melinda Johnson – A scholar athlete, Melinda also coaches three-year olds in a developmental program called Soccer Starts
Julian Plowden – Julian was featured in his local newspaper and was given a key to the city of Columbus, GA
Shefali Haldar – Shefali completed her Bharatanatyam Arangetram in the summer of 2008 – a 3 hour dance performance that is the culmination of 13 years of hard work

Guess the Group - Round One
Today, we’re introducing a new game to the Discus Awards Blog. It’s called “Guess the Group.” I will write a brief description of a group of Discus Awards winners, then I will give you three hints as to what they all have in common, and then you have to guess what trait, activity, or achievement they share. Record your guesses in the comments section and then click on the link at the bottom of the post to find out the answer! Without further ado, here is today’s group of Discus Awards winners:
Joshua Chomik – At one point, he was the 90th most subscribed user on YouTube. He continues to see great success on the user-generated video site.
Bryan Bowers – He was a Big Brother and has coached a youth basketball team for the past 2 years.
David Vo – He is a very talented artist and he developed his skills by drawing and painting on his bedroom walls.
Benjamin Joshua Hawes – After terms as the Sophomore Class President and the Junior Class President, he is now the Student Body President.
Megan Mitchell – She was All-State, All-SWC, All-Area, and the leading scorer and MVP of the Connecticut Lacrosse State Champions.
Andrew Klanjac – He is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Latin Honor Society, and a three time recipient of the Gold Academic Letter which requires a 4.0 GPA.
